Why a rug shop, not a carpet truck
It comes up a lot in Wellington, where most homes run tile through the main rooms with a good hand-knotted rug anchoring the great room or the dining table.
The reason is what a rug actually is. Wall-to-wall carpet is glued and stretched to the slab, made to be scrubbed in place. A hand-knotted rug is a loose textile — wool or silk pile knotted onto a cotton foundation, colored with dyes that were never built to sit under a hot extraction wand.
Run a steam wand over a fine rug on the lanai and three things go wrong without a sound: the grit stays locked in the foundation, the dyes can creep, and the rug dries slow in our humidity — which is exactly how browning and mildew get started along the western edge of the county.

Wool, silk & everything hand-knotted
Different fibers and dyes want different handling — that’s the whole reason we test first. Every rug below gets the full in-plant treatment: measured, pH and dye tested, dusted, washed, and speed-dried.
Hand-knotted Orientals are textiles, not carpet. They earn a proper submerged bath at the plant — never a hot wand on the patio in the Florida sun.

We test before we wash. Each rug gets a pre-inspection with a pH check and a dye-stability test, because some older vegetable-dyed rugs bleed if they meet water the wrong way. If yours is a bleed risk we change the process, and we show you what we found before any cleaning begins.
We price after we inspect, never before. Size, fiber, construction, dye stability, pet contamination and any repairs each change what a rug truly needs, so a phone number would only be a guess. Once we have collected and examined your rug, you get the exact price in writing before any work starts.
Usually, yes. Urine dries into alkaline salts deep in a rug’s foundation, and spot-cleaning the surface never reaches them. We submerge the whole rug to dissolve and flush those salts out. Yes, and it is all done by hand at our plant, never shipped away. That covers fringe repair and replacement, side and edge overcasting, hole reweaving, moth damage, dry rot and full resizing or restoration. If a repair would cost more than the rug is worth, we will tell you plainly.
Most rugs are back in about a week. Washing is followed by controlled speed drying in a temperature and humidity managed room, which matters in Wellington, where high humidity makes air-drying slow and risky for color bleed. Rugs that also need hand repairs take a little longer, and you hear that timeline up front.
